Facing Turmoil with Integrity: What Gandhi and MLK Learned from an Ancient Masterpiece: A Humanities Washington Speaker's Bureau Presentation with Thomas Hitoshi Pruiksma.
Although many know how Gandhi inspired Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision of nonviolence, fewer know how the Kural, a two-thousand-year-old Tamil book of wisdom, inspired Gandhi. A hidden thread thus joins this south Indian classic, Gandhi, and Dr. King.
In this talk, explore these connections across languages and lands, and the ways that these visionaries—and the Kural itself—can inspire clarity and courageous action in our own time and place.
