Live Your Best Digital Life Series: Talking Media with Kids: Raising Thoughtful Digital Citizens
October is Cybersecurity and Information Literacy Awareness month! In today’s fast-moving digital world, children are constantly encountering messages through videos, social media, advertising, and everyday online content. This interactive session invites parents and caregivers to explore how these messages shape what young people think, feel, and believe—and how we can guide them with curiosity, confidence, and care. Together, we’ll move beyond simply managing screen time to understanding how media works and how to talk about it in meaningful, age-flexible ways.
Presenter Maliha Masood is a Pakistani American writer, educator, and author of the travel memoirs Zaatar Days, Henna Nights and Dizzy in Karachi. A graduate of Tufts and Harvard Universities with a Master’s in Law and Diplomacy, she advocates for media literacy, critical thinking, and responsible AI use in K-12 education. Her work has been featured on NPR and PBS, and she is active in youth engagement, storytelling, and community leadership.
