Discuss Pierce County READS book selection "Behold the Dreamers" by Imbolo Mbue.

Book summary: Jende Jonga, a Cameroonian immigrant, has come to New York to try to achieve the American Dream and provide for his family. In the fall of 2007, he can hardly believe his luck when he secures a chauffeur job for a senior executive at Lehman Brothers. However, the world of great power and privilege conceals troubling secrets.

Author event: Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Park Pavilion in Puyallup.

"Behold the Dreamers" won the PEN/Faulker Award for Fiction, the Blue Metropolis Words to Change Award and was an Oprah's Book Club selection. Named a Notable Book of the Year by the New York Times and the Washington Post and a Best Book of the Year by close to a dozen publications, the novel has been translated into 12 languages, adapted into an opera, a stage play and was recently optioned for a movie.
