Explore the historic interaction between the people of Washington and their ever-changing volcanic landscape. Together we will explore artifacts, photos, and video clips about Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens. We will discuss the histories and the hazards we review, as well as questions such as:

• How have these volcanoes helped to shape the culture of the area?
• Do these volcanoes serve as inspiration for local art, music, folklore, and other forms of cultural expression?
• How do local communities participate in collaborative efforts for risk management and disaster preparedness?
• How can communities maintain social cohesion and support networks during and after volcanic events?
