Create art inspired by a Caldecott Medal-winning picture book.

We will read the 2026 Caldecott Medal-winning picture book Fireworks illustrated by Cátia Chien, written by Matthew Burgess. Taking inspiration from the book, we will create artwork that explodes with color and sound using a variety of art materials and expressive words.

This program is built to help developing readers grow confidence, explore books, and have fun through interactive activities. Designed for new and emerging readers, each Ready Reader program offers a unique experience that may include games, group reading, crafts, or storytelling.

View a preview of Fireworks and interview and art demonstration by Cátia Chien for inspiration.
